Loans for Community Facilities

Submissions are now being accepted. Submissions close at 12:00am 30 April 2027 (NZST).

 

The Community Loans Scheme is for community organisations seeking to develop recreation facilities within the Whangarei District.

Examples of eligible projects:

  • installing artificial turf,
  • adding field lights,
  • developing a new sports hub,
  • upgrading community tennis courts
  • developing walking and cycling trails.

Create and login and register your organisation

The first time you access SmartyGrants, you will need to create a login for yourself. Select 'log in' above to register. You only need to do this once.

Once you are registered, you have the option to create a free SmartyFile profile for yourself and your organisation. We highly recommend that you do this to get the best out of SmartyGrants and be able to manage all your grant information centrally. Follow the instructions in your registration email to create a SmartyFile account.

Complete the Preliminary Application form

Applying for a Community Loan is a two-stage application process. The Preliminary Application will check if you can afford to repay the loan. If it passes this stage, you will be invited to submit a Project Proposal to determine the merits of the project.

Once you've registered, you can select 'Start a submission' above to start completing your Preliminary Application. 

Information required

In the Preliminary Application, you need to provide:

  1. Latest financial performance report 
  2. Cash-flow forecast for the term of the loan, demonstrating your ability to repay
  3. Legal description of the land
  4. Evidence of the organisation's endorsement of the application.

In the Project Proposal, you will need to provide:

  1. Evidence of community support for the project
  2. Project timeline including expected milestones
  3. Approval from landowner if property is leased
  4. Location plan, design plans, photos, and/or drawings
  5. Quotes or evidence of costs
  6. Proof of bank account details.
